  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cups of cocoa powder
  • 2 extra large eggs at room temperature
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup of whipped buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of hot coffee
  • Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
  • You need two 8-inch round cake pans

Recipe Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt) in a mixer on low speed. 2. Combine the wet ingredients (buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla) in a bowl and slowly add to the mixture in the mixer, keeping the speed on low. Add the hot coffee last and stir to combine with the rest of the mixture. 3. Cover with parchment paper, grease with butter and flour the molds. Pour the batter into the molds. 4. Bake the dough for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool in pans for 30 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely. 5. Place a layer of bread flat side up on a plate or pie plate and spread a thin layer of buttercream. Place the second layer of bread flat side up and spread the frosting on the sides of the cake and then on top.
