4-year-old girl accidentally shot herself in the head with her father’s gun in Georgia

A 4-year-old girl was accidentally shot after her father left the gun on the floor of their home in Grovetown, Georgia.

The man, identified as a 24-year-old Davion Daniels, stated that he had left the 9 mm gun on the floor, so he could go answer a phone call, according to police information.

Later, Daniels heard a gunshot and proceeded to go upstairs; at the time of the shooting, there were several people in the house.

Family members took the children to the vehicle and drove them to the hospital. On the way, they encountered deputies from the Sheriff’s office, who notified the Grovetown police.

Davion Daniels was arrested for second-degree child cruelty and “possession of a machine gun” according to The Augusta Chronicle.

Daniels was also charged with illegally modifying the glock to make it fully automatic.

The girl was hospitalized Monday and was in a critical condition; according to the police, “the incident was completely preventable”.

Everytown for Gun Safety has documented more than 120 accidental shootings by children in 2023, resulting in the deaths of 53 minors and 71 injuries.

Georgia does not have a law requiring the safe storage of firearms to prevent minors from accessing them.
