According to the newspaper WGN9, the alleged attacker is not in custody so far. Authorities urged the public to take shelter and avoid the city center.
Among the latest updates on the case, the Chicago Sun Times detailed that, according to a witness, the alleged perpetrator would have been hit by a red jeep heading north on Pulaski Road.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker assured that he is “closely monitoring the situation in Highland Park” through his Twitter account.
