Biden Cuts Vietnam Briefing Short for Sleep

After a series of discussions in Vietnam, President Joe Biden wrapped up a press conference on Sunday with a straightforward message to journalists: he needed to go to sleep following the conclusion of the G20 Summit in 2023.

Speaking from the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, Biden addressed the media after two rigorous days at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India.

While answering a question about U.S.-China relations, he voiced his need for rest. “But I tell you what, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go to bed,” Biden shared with the attendees.

Following his statement, a reporter inquired about Biden’s meeting with Chinese Prime Minister, Li Qiang, during the summit.

“What did you talk about with Mr. Li? You said you spoke with the number two from China in India today,” the reporter asked.

“Yeah, we talked…we talked about…we talked about it at the conference. Overall, we talked about stability,” Biden said while appearing tired. “We talked about making sure that the Third World, the Third World….the Southern Hemisphere had access to change. It had access.”

“It wasn’t confrontational at all,” Biden added

A staff member then stepped in to conclude the briefing: “Thank you, everybody. This ends the press conference,” a staffer abruptly said. “Thanks, everyone.”

During his visit to Vietnam, Biden initiated a comprehensive strategic partnership with the nation, aiming to rejuvenate “the strength and dynamism of the U.S.-Vietnam relationship”. The goal is to collaboratively work towards peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.

Biden emphasized that this new partnership isn’t about sidelining China. “It’s not about isolating China. It’s about ensuring that transit rules are respected, from airspace and oceanic space to international transit regulations,” the president clarified.
