McCarthy Initiates Biden Impeachment Inquiry

House Minority Leader, Republican Kevin McCarthy of California, has announced the initiation of an investigation into President Joe Biden, potentially setting the stage for a future impeachment trial.

“These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption that warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives,” McCarthy stated.

“That’s why today I’m directing our House committee to formally open an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.”

McCarthy specified that the investigation will be led by the chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, Republican James Comer of Kentucky.

Additionally, Jim Jordan of Ohio and Jason Smith of Missouri, chairs of other pertinent committees, will be involved.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, McCarthy emphasized that the charges leveled against President Biden “should concern every American,” regardless of party affiliation.

The inquiry will probe into whether Biden accepted bribes or altered policies to favor his son, Hunter Biden.

White House Pushes Back

White House spokesperson, Ian Sams, criticized the Republicans’ move. “House Republicans have been investigating the president for 9 months and have found no evidence of wrongdoing,” Sams pointed out.

The Republican strategy is perceived by some as an attempt to tarnish Biden’s image ahead of the 2024 elections.
