Ongoing Investigation Following Matthew Perry’s Death

The entertainment world was shaken by the news of Matthew Perry’s passing, known for his role on “Friends.”
The official cause of his death remains unknown, awaiting an investigation by the coroner, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
A LAPD spokesperson confirmed to CBS Los Angeles station KCAL News that there were “no obvious signs of trauma” on the actor’s body.
Perry was found unresponsive in his jacuzzi on Saturday, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles City Fire Department. The actor was 54 years old.

The LAPD statement mentioned that due to Perry’s celebrity status, detectives from the Robbery Homicide Division responded to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation.

Besides “Friends,” Perry starred in series and films like “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” “Growing Pains,” “Ally McBeal,” “17 Again,” “The Whole Nine Yards,” “The West Wing,” and the 2015 reboot of “The Odd Couple.” He also received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for his role in the miniseries “The Ron Clark Story” in 2007.
The actor had openly shared his substance abuse struggles in his memoir titled “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” released last year.
Perry, who went to rehab several times for drug and alcohol abuse, discussed the importance of understanding addiction as a disease in an interview with CBS News in 2015.
