Pentagon Identifies Soldiers Slain in Jordan Drone Strike

The Pentagon has released the names of the three American soldiers tragically killed in a drone attack at a base in northeast Jordan.

The deceased, identified as Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, lost their lives in the early hours of Jan. 28, 2024, when a one-way unmanned aerial system struck their container housing units.

Pentagon deputy press Secretary Sabrina Singh disclosed that the attack’s timing and location marked a departure from previous patterns, striking the soldiers’ living quarters during the early morning hours.

“People were actually in their beds when the drone impacted,” she said.

The incident left the servicemen vulnerable, with many in their beds as the drone made its deadly impact.

Seeking Accountability

While the precise orchestrators of the attack are yet to be conclusively identified, Singh pointed to the potential involvement of an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-backed militia, noting the operation’s characteristics aligned with those of Kataib Hezbollah.

She asserted that the U.S. is poised to retaliate at an opportune moment, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to justice for its fallen heroes.

Ongoing Investigations and Aftermath

Further inquiries into the incident are underway, with recent revelations suggesting the deployment of an Iranian drone, specifically a Shahed model, in the assault.

The base, known as Tower 22, serves as a station for a significant contingent of U.S. Army and Air Force personnel.

In the wake of the attack, the number of injured has escalated to over 40, with eight in critical yet stable condition after being evacuated. This tragic event is the deadliest since the Kabul suicide bombing in 2021, underscoring the persistent threats faced by U.S. forces stationed abroad.
