Teenager Among 10 Injured in Wisconsin Apartment Shooting

Gunshots erupted at a Madison, Wisconsin apartment building early Sunday, injuring at least 10 people, including a teenager, police reported.

The incident occurred at the Lux apartments during a rooftop party around 12:45 a.m., as officers responded to a dispatch alert about the shooting.

Details of the Incident

Upon arrival, officers encountered chaos as dozens of partygoers fled the building. A teenager with multiple gunshot wounds was found bleeding in the street.

“Officers were notified that there were likely more victims in the building,” Police Chief Shon Barnes stated during a press conference.

“As a result, Madison police officers bravely ran up 12 flights of stairs to reach the rooftop, unaware of what they may encounter. They found some people in various stages of distress, and some were even hiding in a maintenance closet in an attempt to find safety.”

Victim Information

The victims, ranging in age from 14 to 23, suffered various injuries, with the local fire department confirming that five individuals with gunshot wounds were transported to the hospital.

Some of the injured managed to reach medical facilities on their own. Fortunately, none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Investigation and Response

Police believe the shooting was a targeted incident, although no arrests have been made yet. Officials have not released a description of the shooter.

Authorities are actively interviewing victims and witnesses and examining digital evidence to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.

“It’s a miracle that no one had died,” Chief Barnes remarked, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the quick response by law enforcement and emergency services.
