Texas Government Prepares for Severe Weather Emergencies

According to a statement from the Texas government, Governor Greg Abbott asked the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to prepare the state’s resources to handle weather-related emergencies.

The storm system could track across north, central, and southeast Texas and could bring winds, hail, tornadoes, and rain with possible flooding.

“Texans across the state should remain weather-aware as this severe storm system moves across portions of Texas this week,” said Governor Abbott.

Abbott also advised that the state is standing by to assist local officials and emergency responders to keep communities safe.

“We remain on standby to provide any additional resources that may be necessary over the course of this storm.”

The services activated by the governor for emergencies are as follows:

  • A&M Engineering Extension Services, Urban Search, and Rescue Teams.
  • A&M Forest Service.
  • Department of Health Services.
  • Department of Transportation.
  • Department of Public Safety.
  • National Guard.
  • Parks Department.
  • Public utilities commission.
  • Environmental Rating Commission.
  • Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service.
  • A&M Engineering Extension Service, Public Works Response Team.
  • Division of emergency management.
