New Florida bill will make harassing calls a felony offense

Harassment calls in the state of Florida will become a third-degree felony if the new Bill 67 is passed.

The proposed new bill will allow harassing calls to no longer be taken as a second-degree felony, and instead increase the penalty to a third-degree felony.

According to information on HB 67, the state law will stipulates: “Making requests, suggestions, or comments of an obscene, lewd, or indecent character” and intending to “Abuse, threaten, or harass” the caller will be committing a felony.

Likewise, the law will also contemplate telephone calls in which the sender does not disclose his identity or even if he does not speak, in case he keeps calling repeatedly for the purpose of harassment, They will be committing a felony.

If the law is approved, it would become effective on October 1, 2023.
