What cities in the United States pay you to move there now

An analysis by Extra Space Storage, one of the largest operators of self-storage facilities in the US, located 10 cities that pay you to move into their locations

With all the events that have happened in the last couple of years, such as the Covid pandemic, its subsequent waves of infections, the home office and the great resignation, many people now choose to work remotely instead of moving to an office.

The result of this is that thousands of employees now have the flexibility to work from wherever they want and many US cities are offering financial incentives for people to move to their respective territories.

What cities in the United States pay you to move there now

Extra Space Storage, one of the largest operators of self-storage facilities in the country, compiled a list of ten US cities that offer some type of incentive to live and work there.

Incentives range from grants that cover moving expenses to money to build or buy a new home in the city and free coworking spaces.

Here are 10 cities that offer incentives to move in the United States.

1. Bemidji, Minn.

A city of nearly 15,000 residents offering the Greater Bemidji 218 Relocation Incentive Package to telecommuters looking for something new.

The package includes up to $2,500 to cover moving expenses, a free one-year membership to a local coworking space, and a free membership to networking and community programs.

To be eligible, people must be employed as telecommuters, live at least 60 miles from the city and become full-time residents.

2. Bentonville, Arkansas

It offers 10,000 job openings in the cities of Bentonville, Fayetteville, Springdale and Lowell. The Northwest Arkansas Council has invested $1 million to encourage people to move to the region.

The council is also offering $10,000, which can be received in cash or cryptocurrency, to remote workers as part of the Finding NWA program.

Applicants must be 24 years of age or older, employed full-time, have worked for at least two years, be a resident outside of Arkansas, and be willing to relocate to the northwestern part of the state within six months of being accepted into the program.

3. Lincoln, Kansas

The city offers free lots to new residents, with lots ranging from 14,000 to 35,000 square feet. Farm animals are not allowed, grants are not available to help homeowners build, and mobile homes are not allowed, although it is possible to transport a modular or manufactured home to the site.

4. Morgantown, West Virginia

Offers $12,000 for new residents. Interested parties will receive $10,000 through monthly payments when they first move in, then another $2,000 once they hit their second year. Recipients will have access to free coworking space and must be willing to relocate within six months of being accepted into the Ascend program to qualify.

5. New Haven, Conn.

The city provides up to $10,000 to first-time homeowners to use toward a down payment or closing costs. The city will also provide a 0% interest loan that will be forgiven at a rate of 20% each year, to be fully repaid after five years.

However, if the beneficiary sells their home within that time, they must pay the balance back to the city or have the new buyer take over the remaining amount.

6. Newton, Iowa

The “Meet Newton” package offers $10,000. Recipients may qualify if they purchase a home worth $190,000 or more.

However, if you buy a home below that value, you can still receive tax breaks. The offer is available for homes built through 2023 and will be awarded during the closing.

To receive the $10,000, you must prove the value of the home through an appraisal or appraisal, and the home cannot be rented.

7. North Platte, Nebraska

You have bonuses of up to $5,000 if you take a job there. The signing bonus program is available through the city’s WorkNP program.

8. Topeka, Kan.

As part of Choose Topeka, it offers $15,000 if you buy a home and $10,000 if you rent. If you work remotely, you could earn up to $5,000 if you rent and $10,000 if you buy a home.

To be eligible, you must move into and then rent or buy a home in Topeka within one year of the offer.

9. Tulsa, Okla.

It’s possible to receive $10,000, thanks to the Tulsa Remote program, plus it covers moving expenses and provides a monthly stipend to be paid after you’ve lived in the city for a full year.

To receive the money, you must move to Tulsa within 12 months of being accepted into the program, be a full-time remote employee, or be self-employed outside of Oklahoma.

10. West Lafayette, Ind.

Through its Work From Purdue program, it offers professionals the opportunity to work remotely and live in the Discovery Park District.

Movers can earn stipends of $1,000 to $5,000 and must move to West Lafayette within six months of being accepted into the program to qualify.

Applicants will be required to live in the city for at least one year and will be responsible for finding their own housing.
